Ever here of the phrase, "Be Fearless"? Yeah, me too. But, I have a problem with the concept of pretending fear doesn't exist. What I loved about Elizabeth Gilbert's book, Big Magic, is the idea that fear is always in the back seat and it is up to us to keep it buckled in, not thrown out the window. I'd rather harness fear and work with it. So, my chosen phrase is, "Do what scares you."
Today was another mini prep exercise for Lilla Roger's Global Talent Search, where we illustrate and ornate the letter 'S'. Participating in a contest this big is a scary, scary thing. So I chose to illustrate my S with the texture of a snake, an animal I am the most afraid of, and sprout new growth overtaking it. Symbolic, of course. Pretty, I sure hope so. Buckle up, Fear, we are going for a ride.
